Alkalinity maintenance for reef tanks
- limits unwanted pH swings
- promotes calcium carbonate formation in corals & coralline algae
Water pH is an essential parameter to monitor because major variations of its level are harmful to reef aquarium inhabitants. In this environment, carbonate and hydrogen carbonate ions are responsible for the biggest part of the global alkalinity. Their buffer capacity also helps to reduce the unwanted pH variations.
Carbonate and hydrogen carbonate ions are also used by calcifying organisms, such as corals and coralline algae, in order to form the calcium carbonate of their rigid structures. It is therefore vital that these ions are regularly added to reef aquariums.
AlkaReef+ contains carbonate ions to maintain your aquarium at its optimum alkalinity level. It works with CalciReef+, a calcium hydro-gel that slowly releases hydrogen carbonate ions into the water.
We therefore recommend that you add one ampoule of CalciReef+ for every two ampoules of AlkaReef+ you use. The combination of these two products generates an ionic balance close to that of natural sea water, but we still recommend that you regularly change the water in your aquarium. AlkaReef+ is gluconate free.
How To Use
2 ml AlkaReef+ per 10 liters of aquarium water increases the KH by 1°.
