Reverse osmosis units work by creating a back pressure on the exiting water to force the pure water through membrane. This back pressure is created by adding a flow restrictor on the waste pipe and unless this is fitted you will never achieve good quality water.
The new generation of D-D RO units now have a flow restrictor with a tap on the top of it. This tap allows the user to take the restrictor out of line allowing a greater water flow to periodically flush the membrane and help to keep it clean, which in turn enhances the life of the membrane and aids water quality.
To flush the membrane simply open the tap so that it is in line with the restrictor.
Once the flushing has been done (flush for several minutes) then the tap must be closed. The tap will be closed when it is turned 90 degrees to the direction of flow and will begin to cause back pressure again.
This flushing action should be carried out every 2 weeks or so to keep the membrane in top condition.

A TDS Meter measures the amount of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in a solution.
This measurement is used to determine the purity of the water produced by your RO unit and will give an indication of when your DI resin or membrane life is coming to an end. The inline version measures the TDS of the feed water before the RO Unit and the TDS of the pure water from the unit.
Since dissolved ionized solids like salts and minerals contribute to the conductivity of a solution, a TDS meter measures the conductivity of the solution which is then converted to a TDS reading.
TDS is directly related to quality of water i.e., the lower a TDS figure, the more pure the water. As an example, reverse osmosis purified water will have a TDS between 0 and 10, whereas tap water will vary between 20 and 300.
Suitable for any brand of RO Unit - This pump will significantly increase the volume of water from your unit and will also increase the water quality.
Generally RO units will produce on average about 50% of their stated membrane capacity. This is a result of the temperature and pressure of UK mains water being lower than the standard parameters used for membrane flow specification. Often boosting the pressure with one of these units will give you the full stated membrane volume - summer or winter.
The increased pressure also allows the membrane to work more efficiently often giving a lower TDS in the RO product water.
These units utilise a transformer to run at low voltage and are suitable for 1/4 inch RO Pipe.
